2019 Annual Membership Meeting

The 2019 Annual Membership Meeting was held on May 5 at the Anderson VFW Hall. The membership re-elected Mike McLain to a 5 year term on the Board and also approved a board recommendation to waive fees for becoming a new member of the organization. Annual dues were set at $50 per year, and the membership expressed support for allowing the board to establish a lifetime membership fee which would be invested in a certificate of deposits and provide the organization with a perpetual funding mechanism.

Cemetery Cleanup Day… May 2019

On May 4th, the day before the 2019 annual meeting, the board participated in a day of cleanup at the cemetery. The dead oak tree stump in the center of the cemetery was removed, a toppled monument was re-erected, limbs and debris were cleared, and weeds were sprayed.

Another Tree Problem…

In April 2019, after a strong line of thunderstorms passed through the area, a large tree was found to have fallen across the access road leading to the cemetery. The board contacted the property owner and was able to get the tree removed that same day.

Brush Removal

Over the years, a number of large yaupon bushes had grown out of control and were completely obscuring many of the graves in three different areas of the cemetery. Some of the grave markers could not even be seen due to the heavy undergrowth.

In December 2018, the board hired a contractor to completely remove this brush. The work was completed in January 2019, leaving the cemetery looking completely different. If you have not been to the cemetery recently, we invite you to come visit and see for yourself how much better it looks.

Tree Damage

In October 2018, a large tree limb broke off and fell onto the 100 year old grave marker of Elvira Fuqua, toppling it to the ground. The board granted approval for the hiring of a contractor to remove the tree limb and re-erect the monument. The damage was fixed within a few days.
