2025 Annual Membership Meeting and Cemetery Cleanup

Sunday, May 4, 2025 from 3-4PM at the Cemetery

As specified by the bylaws of the Fuqua Family Cemetery/Erwin Cemetery Association, we will hold our 2025 annual membership meeting on Sunday, May 4.   This year we will be meeting at the Cemetery, so bring your lawn chairs.  This will be a good opportunity to clean up and level the grave markers and burial plots of your family members as well.

There are several items on the agenda for member approval: election of a director for a 5-year term, as well as approval of membership dues, and burial fees for 2025/2026.  If you will not be attending the meeting, you may designate a proxy to vote on your behalf.  If you wish to vote by proxy, state law for non-profit organizations requires a written  Designation of Proxy form (which can also be found below) be returned to us prior to May 4.  Your proxy may be anyone you designate who is attending the meeting, but if you prefer, you may simply designate the “Board Secretary”.  If you have any questions on proxy voting, please call us at 936-727-2400 and leave a message.  When we send out the annual dues notice in August, we will include a summary of the annual meeting.

We look forward to seeing you there…

Entrance Structure Damage

For the second time in less than 3 months, a vehicle has severely damaged one of our brick entrance structures. The first time was the left hand structure and the responsible party stepped up and took care of the repairs. This time, there are no witnesses and we don’t know the identity of the responsible party. We believe the damage occurred on Saturday, Sept 21. If you happen to come across any information as to what happened and who may have been responsible please let us know.

Important Meeting and Vote scheduled for3PM, March 27, at the Fuqua Family Cemetery

If you are a member in good standing of the Fuqua Family Cemetery Corporation you will be receiving a letter explaining the purpose of this meeting and proxy ballot in the mail around March 1. After reviewing this letter, if you have any questions, please email them to us at fuquafamilycemetery@gmail.com . The official notice as posted at the cemetery and in the Navasota Examiner is shown below. We have used the term “Plot Owners” in the official notice because that is the term defined in the Texas Cemetery Regulations which applies to our members who are current in payment of their annual dues.

Notice of Plot Owners’ Meeting

A meeting of the plot owners of the Fuqua Family Cemetery, 5504 Erwin Cemetery Road, Anderson, Texas, will be held at the cemetery on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., to decide whether to convey the dedicated cemetery property to Fuqua Family Cemetery, a Texas nonprofit cemetery corporation. Request a copy of the proposed agenda from fuquafamilycemetery@gmail.com

Finally got it done…

After delays caused by Covid and wet ground conditions, the old chain link fence at the rear of the cemetery has finally been removed. Members met on November 21 and used a tractor (provided by Pat McLure) along with a large sledgehammer to remove the poles which were set in concrete along with the remaining tree stumps which had grown into the old chain link fence.
